Some ceiling damage cannot be patched. When the drywall itself has failed across a large area, the right fix is to cut the section out and replace it.
What we did
- Cut out the damaged 8x4 section back to the joists.
- Hung a new panel, taped and mudded the seams, and feathered the compound well past the joint.
- Matched the surrounding texture, primed, and painted the full ceiling so there is no visible edge where new meets old.
The result
A ceiling with no trace of the repair. The difference between a patch that shows and one that disappears is almost entirely in how far the compound is feathered and whether the whole plane gets painted afterward.
