Roselle is a village located in DuPage County, Illinois, and serves as a suburb of Chicago. The village was first incorporated in 1922 as a bedroom community, primarily attracting residents who commuted to Chicago or nearby suburbs for work.
Location and History
The area surrounding Roselle began to be settled in the early 1830s, alongside the native Potawatomi people. Roselle was named after Rosell Hough, a businessman and alderman in Chicago who returned to the area in 1868 and opened the Illinois Linen Company. The village has a rich history that includes its role as a farming center for corn and flax. As of the 2020 census, the village’s population was 22,897, slightly higher than the user-provided figure of 22,660.
The village is located at coordinates 41.9848N and -88.0798W and has a total area of 5.61 square miles, of which 98.64% is land and 1.36% is water. Notable hydrological features in the area include Goose Lake, Spring Creek, and Turner Pond, a man-made pond located just north of the town center.
